K’ANBA CAVES
About 500 ft. before the entrance to Semuc, you’ll see a large metal bridge
over the Cahabon River. A trail leads from the bridge for 300ft. to a shelter
below the cave entrance where you pay a fee and get a guide. The tour through
the river-filled cave is approximately two hours. The site also includes a trail
along the river’s edge and a scenic overlook above the cave entrance.
The cave is accessible the majority of the year. Hotel Las Marías provides
guides and equipment. 2 hour candlelit adventure! Entrance fee Q50 (Q30/guests
of Las Marías). This is the starting point for tubing the Cahabon River
until the Las Marías Hotel (2.5km). Tubes can be rented at Las Marías.
YAXLIK CAVE
This cave is located several kilometers beyond Semuc Champey in the village
of Chiquelex. The trail to get to the cave begins at the bridge over the Chiacté
River, next to the owner’s house and a small hut designed to give information
to the visitors. It is necessary to get permission from the owners to go on
the property, contact a local guide/member of the family and pay the entrance
fee. The hike is 45min. and caving 1 hour. You can see stalactites and stalagmites,
a large bat population, spiders and crabs. It is muddy and slippery and has
some rooms that are very steep to enter, making it necessary to use ropes. The
nearby villages use the cave for ceremonies. It’s accessible the majority
of the year.
EL CABRO WATERFALL
El Cabro waterfall is located in the village of Chitzubil in a forested valley
to the northeast of Lanquin. It is a series of waterfalls, some of which reach
70ft and form small pools where you can go swimming. The trail to the waterfall
crosses a private ranch and then the village. The round trip hike and swimming
takes about 5 hours. There is no infrastructure and the trails are the same
as those used by people in the villages. It is recommended to get permission
from the ranch and village and to be accompanied by a local guide.

CATHEDRAL
The only remaining original part of the Cathedral of any architectural interest
is the façade, which was constructed in 1580. The current market area
is on top of the remains of the original church. The Cathedral is open every
day.
